albumreviews from TIM RUZGAR, Linedancer Magazine’s resident music reviewer

It is said that Luke Bryan is a “superstar in the making” and he goes from strength to strength since his debut album back in 2007 and his follow up ‘Doin’ My Thing’ from which he garnered three number one hits and now he releases a new album on which he wrote more than half the songs.

HUMPHEAD RECORDS – HHEAD016 DANCE 3 · LISTEN 5

The likely candidates for dance tracks are; Country Girl (Shake It For Me) (106bpm) is an absolute peach of a track! It has catchy lyrics, a super beat and this should have choreographers fi ghting over this one; Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye (115bpm) this too has a brilliant beat and coupled with Luke’s powerful voice should be of interest as a dance number; Muckalee Creek Water (90bpm) is a John Anderson type of number with a very strong beat; I Don’t Want This Night To End (112bpm) straight away Luke delivers another good solid dance prospect; Harvest Time (72bpm) is a beautiful nightclub two

Mark Chesnutt has enjoyed worldwide success since the early nineties and has provided some brilliant music for Line dancing particularly in the early years. This 2CD set is all his singles on MCA from 1990 – 2000.

HUMPHEAD – HUMP115 DANCE 4 · LISTEN 5

The tracks that have a dance beat are; Blame It On Texas (142pm) a super east coast swing number; Bubba Shot The Jukebox (82bpm) is one of Mark’s songs that we used to dance a lot to; I’ll Think Of Something (76bpm) this is a wonderful nightclub two step; Old Flames Have New Names (104/208bpm) is a brilliant two step dance track; It Sure Is Monday (146bpm) this time we have a good paced east coast swing; Goin’ Through The Big D (86bpm) is another that many of you will have danced to in the early Line dance years; Woman (Sensuous Woman) (122bpm) is a traditional sounding west coast swing song; Gonna Get A Life (84bpm) is a classic

Toy Horses are a Welsh duo, Adam D. Franklin and his stepfather Tom Williams. They started out by posting demos of their self penned songs on Myspace and gained interest from both sides of the Atlantic which led to them going to Nashville to record their debut album, although their music is defi nitely not country and is described as “an affi nity to the sixties”.

ALBINO SPARROW RECORDS – ALBSPCD02 DANCE 3 · LISTEN 4

Tracks with a good dance beat are; Play What You Want (84pm) in the style of Billy Bragg and its a cool dance number; And It Was You (112bpm) is a gentle waltz and should be of interest to choreographers looking for something different; Sordid Little World (100bpm) despite the title this is a bright little song; Loyal To The Cause (104bpm) this is my favourite track, it’s a bit punky and would make an interesting dance track; Damage Done (10bpm) has some interesting tempo

step; Been There, Done That (78bpm) has a driving, solid beat tailormade for dancing and fi nally Faded Away (70bpm) on which Luke pours his heart out on and this is another wonderful nightclub two step.

Luke has a stunning voice and there are some excellent listeners; Drunk On You (72bpm) which is a gorgeous song; Too Damn Young (70bpm) which has some pickin’; You Don’t Know Jack (60bpm) clever lyrics on a lovely song; I Know You’re Gonna Be There (78bpm) and Tailgate Blues (64bpm) are two songs on which I love Luke’s smooth vocal and fi nally I Knew You That Way (98bpm) which is as good a country song as I have heard for some time.

Personally I have loved Luke Bryan’s music from his fi rst album and undoubtedly he goes from strength to strength. This is a superb album, go get yourself a copy today!

old school Line dance number; It Wouldn’t Hurt To Have Wings (90/180bpm) is another good two stepper; Trouble (114bpm) you will probably remember dancing to this classy west coast swing track; It’s A Little Too Late (86bpm) is a rip roaring country rocker whilst It’s Not Over (84bpm) by complete contrast is a lovely waltz; I Might Even Quit Lovin’ You (84/168bpm) is yet another decent two step; This Heartache Never Sleeps (88bpm) is a lively number and fi nally Lost In The Feeling (96bpm) Mark’s classic waltz track. There are too many tracks to go through them all but the album also contains great songs like I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing (62bpm) Mark’s cover of Aerosmith’s song and one of my favourites I’ll Think Of Something (74bpm).

This is a superb collection of Mark Chesnutt’s fi nest work and it is simply a must have collection.

changes and lastly No One’s Ever Gonna Leave You (104bpm) has a cracking beat and this is another that could be of interest as a dance track.

The non dance numbers include; Last Chance (86bpm) a gorgeous song; Love At An Arm’s Length (82bpm) I love the Hammond organ on this song; Oh Violet (76bpm) a gentle song showcasing the partnerships excellent songwriting abilities and fi nally the closer Interrupt (76bpm) which again sounds like it could easily have been written by Lennon & McCartney as the vocal is pure McCartney.

Toy Horses are an interesting duo crossing several genres and whilst this album is not full of solid dance tracks, there are a few and you should give the album a listen.
