Tim’s album of the month JACE EVERETT Mr Good
Times HUMPHEAD RECORDS HUMP116
Singer /songwriter Jace Everett has been plying his trade for a number of years but really came to the fore when his song ‘Bad Things’ was used as the theme for the smash hit TV series True Blood. The success of his last album ‘Red Revelations’ took Jace all over the world and now he has a brand new release.
Jace rocks the opening with Great American Hero (118bpm) which has a pseudo sixties feel to it with shades of the Beatle and Stones. This has a cool west coast swing beat and would make for a good dance number.
The Drugs Aren’t Getting It Done (118bpm) Jace is forming a pattern with this track and he is showing that you can do something different with country music and I love it!
Business Is Booming (78bpm) here Jace switches things around with a dark yet funky number which is a rhumba style song that should have huge appeal as a dance track.
Let’s Begin Again (102pm) is an altogether different style of song, it’s pretty deep but has some good lyrics highlighting Jace’s songwriting talents.
God Made You Mean (102bpm) has Chris Izaak style guitar riffs throughout and this moody track could just tempt a clever choreographer to write to it.
Nothing (110bpm) Jace goes for a contemporary style on this cool track which has powerful harmonies and builds into a crescendo throughout.

Listen to samples from all of these albums in this month’s
Good Times (78pm) this track lives up to its title and Justin Lee Collins may well adapt it as his theme song! This is a funky country song and it gives choreographers something different to work with.
Angry Hostile Ugly (120bpm) now Jace switches to a punk style number in The Stranglers vein and this is defi nitely a ‘Marmite’ track. Me? I love it! Don’t Look Down (100bpm) is a delightful country cha cha number that you could use for so many classic dances until someone writes a new one to it.
Tricky Thing (140bpm) is a super track laced with some great harmonica playing, it’s possibly the best on the album and I will watch with interest to see who writes a dance to it.
In contrast to the opener the closing track Autumn (86bpm) is a soothing yet powerful track with a superb musical accompaniment.
Jace Everett takes a chance with his latest release as he crosses many musical genres and that can lead to being a musical car crash or a musical masterpiece, and in my opinion Jace’s album comes closer to the latter. You need somewhat of an open mind with this album but if you give it a good go I am sure you will fi nd it very much to your liking and there are some brilliant dance tracks to boot.
