In this occasional series we are going to try and fi nd out about some of your favourite choreographers.
What is the fi rst memory of dance in your life?
Pat Stott spoke with Dawn Middleton.
As long as I can remember from a very young child I used to love watching the fi lms, mainly musicals with Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, etc.
Before you got into Line dance what was your favourite genre?
I loved tap, ballet, jazz, ballroom and latin dance and all types of music
When did you discover Line dance? I used to teach Ballroom and Latin and
an examiner told me all about Line dance and although I didn’t do anything about it for six months he advised me that it
was going to be big in this
country....that was about 18 years ago!
What did it bring to you that other dance genres had not?
Fun that could be enjoyed by all ages and capabilities.
Did you know there and then that Line dance was your favourite style?
No, as I enjoy all types of dance.
What did you instantly like about it? Did you have any dislikes then? I enjoyed the various types of music
and the different levels. I can’t think of any dislikes.
