On 19 October Gala Bingo launched ‘Fifi the Birthday Fairy’ - who fluttered across the firm’s online bingo site splashing some surprise cash prizes as part of Gala Bingo’s 20th birthday celebrations. Once Fifi (played by the chat moderator) appeared in a chat room all the players that played in the previously completed bingo game in that club won a share of a cash amount. Matt Prevost, marketing director of gal- abingo.com, said: “It is great to be able to celebrate Gala Bingo’s 20th birthday at galabingo.com.”

Spread betting firm Spreadex has expanded its product range with the launch of a new online casino. Spokesman Andy McKenzie discusses the firm’s reasons for the move.

DIVERSIFICATION I

s there much demand from your customer base for casino gaming? The initial idea

was to offer the casino as an extra addition to our sports betting client base and it has to be said, we were unsure how popular or unpopular the casino would prove to be. However, just a couple of weeks after the launch there has been in excess of £1.25m staked on this side of the busi- ness with bet numbers and the amount of clients placing casino bets increasing day by day. So there does seem to be considerable appetite for our casino offering from our

existing client base and this includes take-up from our financial clients too not just our sports betting customers.

How will you cross-market the products? We realise that the casino product will not be to all of our customers’ tastes and we realise that we are known first and foremost for our financial trading and sports betting coverage, so we have tried to find the right balance with promoting this new offering to our client base. The casino product is being cross-marketed specifically to our sports betting client base and this has been done

SPREADEX HAS BEEN PROMOTING ITS NEW CASINO SITE

via a number of digital methods such as stories or links on our website sports homepage, via web login messages, email or social media channels. We have also communicated the product launch by the more tradi- tional methods of direct mail or during phone calls from our account managers to lapsed clients or new account holders.

Will you eventually offer this via mobile too?

Mobile is becoming one of the most important areas for Spreadex at the moment and following the launch of our Mobile Sports Betting Platform and iPhone Finan- cial Trading App, we are working on creating mobile versions of our desktop websites for both sports and financials. On our wish-

list is also to create Finan- cial Trading Apps for Android and iPad. So while we would ideally also like to get a mobile offering for our casino product, this may not happen immedi- ately.

Who is your casino software supplier? We provide our casino offering in partnership with

How important was it to get all your products working from a single wallet? Was it difficult to arrange? Yes, it was important to make the casino as easy to access and use as possible from a customer’s point of view. Before the casino launch, our customers could already carry out either financial spread bets, sports spread bets or sports fixed odds bets from their Spreadex account with clients operating on either credit or deposit arrange- ments depending on their preferences or suitability. So we had to create a way of making the new casino element as smooth and user-friendly as possible. Rather than having a spe- cific separate casino wallet, Spreadex clients can play the casino games by auto- matically accessing the ‘withdrawable funds’ amount in their account. This is available amount is basically any cash which isn’t being used to cover existing open sports or financial positions and also excludes any credit limit the person may have set up.
