OREGON RUSH WELCOMES NEW PORTLAND TIMBERS TRAINING CENTER

The Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer and Oregon Rush Soccer Club will be teaming up begin- ning Fall 2011 to create a regional training center in Bend for boys born in 1998 and 1999.

RUSH ALUM MIKE CHABALA OF THE PORTLAND TIMBERS

The Timbers, one of the best-supported MLS teams, are

creating six training centers around Oregon and have asked Oregon Rush to run the Central and Eastern Oregon regions. These regional centers will serve as the basis for a Timbers US Developmental Academy Program, set to begin in August 2012. “We are very excited to welcome the Portland Timbers to Bend,”

stated Oregon Rush Executive Director John O’Sullivan, who will also act as the Regional Training Center Director. “The Timbers have taken MLS by storm, and the Timbers Army are the best fans in the United States. We want our players to be passionate about the Timbers, MLS, and soccer in the US, and we hope that our youngest players one day aspire to join Rush alum Mike Chabala

on the Timbers.” O’Sullivan will be joined on the Timbers RTC staff by technical Director Eli Ulvi and DOC Kyle Steinbaugh. The Timbers RTC will expose players in Central Oregon to

training from Timbers staff, including sports psychology, nutrition, and fitness expertise. "Young players need ignition, something to spark their interest, make a professional soccer career a tangible goal and not just an idea or a fleeting hope," states O’Sullivan. “Together, Oregon Rush and the Portland Timbers will be able to provide that for our players, and show them that becoming a professional soccer player is an attainable goal if you have the passion and work ethic to get there.”

PA Rush Soccer Club prides itself on placing the player first. Our mission is to ensure that individu- als committed to PA Rush are provided with every resource necessary to reach their full potential as players.

Some highlights of the program from fall 2011:

Friday Night Finishing Trainer Kenny Wilson: The Friday Night Finishing program is open to all PA Rush

travel players. The purpose of Friday Night Finishing is to provide forwards and other attacking players the opportunity for many shooting repetitions in front of goal. Each player gets approximately 80 shots per session and it is our goal not to have more than a 12:1 player to coach ratio.

Player Development Program Trainer Marissa Braverman: The PDP (Player Development Program) sessions focus on

the technical development of the soccer player. Sessions will be themed to a particular skill each session. The curriculum will cover

passing/receiving and dribbling/individual moves. The program will break down complex moves into simple easy to follow steps using the PA Rush methodology. The players will develop lightning fast technical skills in a progressive age appropriate program.

Goalkeeping Trainer Bree Benedict: Goalkeeper training is open to all PA Rush travel players. The

sessions occur once a week for seven weeks during the fall season with the focus on specific technical and tactical training sessions. The sessions are designed to encompass all age groups and skill levels.

We will be looking at similar programs in the spring!
