Are Modular

Data Centres key to meeting your requirements now and in the future?

W

hen Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS) decided to be among the first to manufacture

the next generation of modular data centres, it turned to Uninterruptible Power Supplies Limited (UPSL), a Kohler company, to provide the efficiency and flexibility it required for its power protection. The idea of a rapidly deployed, modular data centre is nothing new, in fact, container DCs have been making their presence known for several years, and especially since 2006. The limitations in terms of scalability and the temporary nature of container based facilities means they are still unsuitable for most organisations’ long- term DC requirements. Colt understood the potential for this new area and has created a separate business division, Colt DCS, to focus purely on data centre services and deliver a new and totally different solution to the data related challenges organisations face today. The chosen configuration uses two UPSL PowerWAVE6000s, each with a load capacity of 80kVA, working in an N + N redundant formation. The third UPS is the smaller PowerWAVE5000T, also from UPSL, which supports the mechanical load.

axon motor has unveiled the first in its new family of miniaturised, user-friendly DC motor controllers: the ESCON 36/2 DC. Just 55 x 40 mm, the versatile new ESCON offers dynamic, 4-quadrant control of brushed motors to 72 W, at speeds up to 150,000 rpm. Operating modes include open or closed loop speed control, as well as current control. Other functionality,

like speed-ramping and the

option to enable or disable the power stage depending on the direction of rotation. Inputs and outputs can be digitally configured, quickly and easily, by plugging in to a USB port. No external filters or motor chokes are required, and in-built protective circuits safeguard the controller and motor against accidental damage. maxon motor UK senior sales engineer Paul Williams said: “The ESCON 36/2 really pushes the envelope for miniaturisation – and the USB configuration is simply child’s play.”

he Sensors Division of Ocean Optics (www.OceanOptics.eu) is introducing a new member to its NeoFox family of optical oxygen sensors, NeoFox Sport. This portable, handheld optical oxygen sensor is designed specifically for measuring dissolved and gaseous oxygen pressure in a multitude of media. NeoFox Sport’s sensor makes use of a proprietary sol-gel coating that is embedded with an oxygen indicator that can be applied to patches or probes. These coating formulations are available for general laboratory use, high-sensitivity applications and hydrocarbon-rich sample environments. Additionally, the NeoFox Sport’s unique design make it a

truly handheld, portable and simple-to-use tool for the lab, field and in industrial environments. NeoFox Sport features microprocessor-based electronics, onboard data logging a simplified data display and USB, Analog and RS-232 connectivity for interfacing with a PC.

operation, offering the perfect solution for a range of applications and variety of installation approaches.

ceiling-mounted modules,

The Micro Multisensor plugs into daisy-chains on a

common bus and connects directly to a Dali buswire. Designed to optimise energy efficiency and sustainability,

Delmatic’s Micro Multisensor

combines passive infra-red presence and absence detection with daylight linked dimming, so that lighting is related to occupation as well as the extent of daylight contribution. The Micro Multisensor includes an infra-red receiver that enables users to adjust lighting levels to suit their individual preference via a personal infra-red transmitter.
