Stay safe when switching to solar power

A

s Solar Power grows in popularity as a source of alternative energy, the requirement for safety has never been greater. As the cells are constantly generating whilst there is daylight, therefore, the inverter needs to be isolated for servicing and repair. To ensure complete safety and peace of mind, fit a Katko DC Safety Switch between the photovoltaic cells and the input to the inverter and an AC Safety Switch between the output of the inverter and the main switchboard. For increased awareness, and thereby safety, Katko supply the DC switches in grey enclosures with a black padlockable handle and the AC switches in a yellow enclosure with a yellow/red padlockable handle, making it immediately apparent to the end user which switch is DC and which is AC. Katko's DC range covers from 6A DC22 at 440V to 200A DC21 at 1000V. Katko's AC range covers from 16A to 630A.

or use in 22mm and 30mm pushbutton applications, Switchtec’s SCL 10D pushbuttons now include a metal bezel version for applications that demand ultimate ‘bright metal’ aesthetics and also adding strength and further robustness to the mounted product. The pushbuttons are a cost effective, high quality alternative to other high profile brands, providing specifiers and buyers with an alternative or secondary source for improved pricing structures and/or a secure, constant supply of switches. Aimed at OEMs, CEMs, panel builders, and equipment manufacturers, the pushbuttons are for use in a wide variety of control panels in both industrial and commercial applications. To meet the needs of the marketplace and for an efficient HMI, the revised pushbuttons feature a modern, more compact design, coupled with improved installation and wiring.

Dimming of luminaires with ABB KNX universal dimmers

-bus® KNX universal dimmers from ABB were voted Products of the Year in the KNX UK Association annual awards.

i lamps can be dimmed using the universal dim

actuators via a phase angle control. LV halogen lamps with conventional transformers are also dimmed using phase control whilst those with electronic transformers are dimmed using phase angle control. ABB is a member of the KNX UK Association and their dimming options for lighting are highly desirable as they provide comfort through the creation of a living environment that suits the mood. Dimming is also cost-effective in both commercial and domestic applications as it promotes energy savings by creating lighting levels in accordance with the availability of natural daylight. Dimming can extend the life of the luminaires through reduced intensity of the “switch-on” brightness.

stop condensing boiler drainage pipes freezing!

aychem has introduced FrostGuard, its innovative new energy efficient heating cable kit to stop condensing boilers drainage pipes freezing. Cold temperatures can result in a major increase in frozen condensate drainage pipes and if the pipe is blocked it can stop the condensate flowing away causing the boiler to shut off, just when it’s needed most. Raychem FrostGuard is easily fixed either in or onto the condensate pipe to prevent it from freezing. In includes smart self- regulating technology which means in very cold conditions, the heater cable produces more heat and in milder freezing conditions, less heat. The system offers freeze protection and energy efficiency whilst the simple Plug ‘n’ Play system requires no specialist electrical knowledge. Simply plug into the electrical socket and fix to the pipe. FrostGuard is available in a variety of lengths ranging from 2-25m and has a plug and cold lead to eliminate the need for electrical wiring.

he Guard Dog range of cable protectors from Lewden Electrical Industries has been used throughout auxiliary areas at Silverstone Circuit to protect mains cables from any potential hazards and make them safer for pedestrians. Supplied and installed by Ariba Power Care Ltd., who were responsible for site power, mains and distribution, both cable protection systems have been used throughout the rear of the new £28M building which houses the race control tower, media suites, corporate hospitality and pit garages. Used to protect temporary main power from the pit garages to the team support and TV vehicles, over 300 lengths have been installed and will be used at all major events including the MotoGP and Formula 1 Grand Prix in a layout to suit each individual event. The Guard Dog system is constructed from hard polyurethane, making it weather-proof and abrasive resistant.
