Products Drives & Controls Continued expansion for e100

Heason Technology’s e100 intelligent servo motor drive and controller range has been expanded with additional communication and application development features.

The e100 family includes the MicroFlex e100 and MotiFlex intelligent single axis drives as well as the NextMove e100 multi-axis motion and machine controller. Heason Technology is a preferred systems integrator for Baldor Motion, and at the heart of these motion products the real time Ethernet Powerlink standard combines with TCP/IP and Baldor’s Mint system building environment to provide a universal drive plat- form that is suitable for a variety

of applications, from stand alone motion control to PLC hosted networked systems. Baldor recently announced that it has added greater flexibility by re-engineering the e100 range with full compatibility with another two Ethernet standards, namely EtherNet/IP and

Modbus TCP. These design improvements do not require additional cost or plug-in cards and widen the potential for integration of Baldor’s motion products into large scale PLC controlled networked systems. Baldor has also added a new single axis version of Mint soft- ware to its e100 intelligent drive range. Called Mini Lite, it offers all of the multi-tasking language power of Mint for complete con- trol of the drive, on-board I/O, communications and Ethernet networking features. Integrated brushless servo motor drive The EnduraMax 75i integrated

brushless servo motor drive has recently been launched by Allied Motion and is available from Mclennan Servo Supplies.

The new offering has a high power density 75mm diameter brushless DC motor, an inte- grated all digital drive and a 4096 count magnetic encoder. The EnduraMax 75i also has both +/-10V DC or 4-20mA command inputs or can be controlled via optional CANopen or Modbus allowing flexibility with system interfacing. The solution for torque, speed and/or position control is available in a choice of three frame lengths and voltages of 12, 24 and 48V DC for continuous rated torque up to 1Nm and speeds to 3,900rpm. The EnduraMax 75i is suitable for OEMs and end users as an automation component for linear and rotary actuators, and for simple distributed motion systems such as parts transport or spacing conveyors. It is also of benefit for machine upgrades - replacing similar sized brushed DC servo motors with higher dynamic performance together with longer life, reduced maintenance and quieter operation. Its low voltage operation and high motor efficiency is also of use in battery

DRIVES & CONTROLS

Relay Output Modules with Manual Operation

T

he relay output modules with integrated LED and free- wheeling diode for each channel is a new addition to

the Varioface system cabling from Phoenix Contact. The relay’s manual operation means outputs can be simply and manually switched and the output functions tested. The relays can be easily connected up error-free using the front adapters and system cables, which are available for many control systems. The relays are simply plugged in and are ready to operate. The modules are available in 8- and

32-channel versions. In addition, they are optionally available as an 8-channel module with a fuse in the output circuit. Large loads up to 250 V AC/DC can be reliably switched using these relays. The control is protected as a result of the electrical isolation.

ABB drives cut £20,000 off energy bill for GKN A

New Partnership with Technosoft SA

BB low voltage AC drives are saving GKN £20,000 a year in energy costs on its Toyota component production line. ABB contacted GKN ASL with a proposal to investigate energy usage at the plant and determine if low voltage AC drives could make a difference on any motor-driven applications. Ade Stone, Energy Champion for GKN ASL, identified the fume extraction on the Toyota line as a likely candidate and agreed to a trial of ABB drives. Says Stone: “With the increasing price of energy, we are obviously looking for any viable energy saving technique and we will look at any approach with the potential to cut our energy bill.” ABB also provided training for GKN ASL maintenance staff so that they could keep the drives working at optimum performance. “We are in the process of rolling out ABB low voltage AC drives to other areas of the plant,” adds Stone, “and we have recently installed five ABB drives on the Land Rover Defender line and are looking to install another in our compressor house.”

EM Automatic is pleased to announce our appointment as the UK distribution partner for

powered applications. Set-up for current, velocity or position loop and motor tuning is made using the built-in RS232 communications port and the supplied PC-based IN Control HMI software. The port can also be used for direct posi- tion indexing or users may index via optional CANopen or Modbus. A complement of six inputs and three outputs are programmable for limit switch- es, drive enable, drive fault etc. The motor drive carries full

drive electronics protection including overvoltage, short circuit and reverse volt- age, with I2T and Class F (155°C) rated motor windings. The anodised motor and drive housing has IP50 protection class as standard with heavy duty bearings and separate D-type connectors for motor power, encoder and I/O - with a third con- nector for the optional fieldbus interface. Other options include a temperature acti- vated cooling fan, holding brake, cus- tomised shaft and/or mounting, IP67 pro- tection, sealed bearings, and a low power sleep mode.
