WRAM Show Moves to Modern New Venue
The Westchester Radio Aero Modelers (WRAM) is moving its 44th annual show—the largest of its kind on the East Coast—to new quarters in Secaucus, NJ, in 2012. It will be held February 24-26 at the Meadowlands Exposition Center

(MEC), a convenient, large, modern facility, with free parking and only a 15- minute bus ride into Manhattan. The new venue is more family friendly, with 5 major hotels, 25 restaurants, 14 movies and dozens of retail shops within a 5- minute walk. The WRAM Show features a wide array of competition-based static displays, manufacturers’ exhibits, seminars, racetracks, flight simulators, youth events and much more related to radio-controlled model airplanes, helicopters, boats and cars. The Show has been drawing the largest three-day weekend attendance at the White Plains County Center in NY for over 40 years. “It was time to find
another site,” said Show Manager Lou Scarlino. “We needed more space and more modern conveniences. The MEC has everything we were looking for and more, without having to increase vendor and admission fees. In fact, we’re offering vendors reduced fees for larger 10 x 10-foot booths. “We’re excited about this move and the possibility of increased interest and attendance,” Scarlino continued. “It’s especially convenient for vendors. We have them coming from as far away as China.” Newark International Airport is only minutes away and major highways
also service the MEC. Easy load-in and load-out is facilitated by four truck bays and two 14 x 16-foot drive-in doors. There’s unlimited parking for trucks and trailers and 6,000 free, covered parking spaces for the public. The Center itself is 61,000 square feet of unobstructed space on one level with a 20-foot ceiling. Modelers compete at the Show for prizes in different categories. The scale

models are miniaturized versions of actual full-size aircraft and boats. They range in design from ”pioneer day” biplanes to current-day jets. The Best in Show model takes home a $1,000 prize. The WRAM Show also includes many popular events such as the WRAM
Flyer Program that helps children build rubber-powered airplanes. They build them in about 30 minutes, fly them and can take them home, hopefully started on a fun and rewarding hobby. One of the Show’s most popular features is the R/C model-car racetrack,
