A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT

We have a river-cruise extravaganza in this edition as we take a detailed look at how the small-ship version of cruising has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years, with new boats, new features, new

itineraries and new horizons. The vast majority of river journeys still take place along the waterways of central Europe, hence that is where we focus most of our attention, along the likes of the Rhine, Mosel, Danube and Main rivers, highlight- ing what makes this amazing ‘slice’ of the continent so fascinating. To start with, we take a typical Rhine-Danube voyage in the company of Uniword and Viking River Cruises, then we branch out into France for a luxury barge cruise. The journey continues with a little-seen facet of river-cruising – the amazing Christmas

markets which can be enjoyed during the November and December festive season. And we wrap up with a preview of the return of Mississippi river sailings in 2012 – one of THE great undiscovered cruise experiences.
