The PLANTWORX Exhibition ‘Grand Stand Draw’ Overwhelming Success
– Two Special Guests Make A Surprise Appearance! The Heritage Motor Museum, Gaydon in Warwickshire was a hive of activity on the 22nd September, following a conference hosted by the Construction Equipment Association, the organisers of PLANTWORX. More than 60 guests from the construction industry gathered amongst an amazing collection of vintage cars to witness the PLANTWORX ‘Grand Stand Draw’. Two very special guests were also in attendance, Absolutely Fabulous star Patsy Stone, and the lovable rogue from the Only Fools and Horses series, Delboy Trotter. The professional lookalike duo (Sue Bradbury and Maurice Canham), were tasked with ‘drawing the lottery’ for the maxi/anchor stands, for the forthcoming event - and added humour to the evening - much to the delight of the guests! Twelve leading brands were involved in the draw including, Ammann, Case, Hyundai, JCB, New Holland, Terex, Thwaites, Volvo and Wacker Neuson - in the ‘Dig Zone’ area of the show. Bomag, Manitou and Merlo were in the draw for the ‘No Dig Zone’.
The draw was for the maxi/anchor stands at PLANTWORX 2013 – these are the largest stands
available and strategically placed around the showground to maximise both exhibitor and visitor experience. Proceedings involved two sets of balls - one with the company name and the other with plots, indicated by a letter of the alphabet, and the exhibitors involved genuinely did not know where they were to be placed! Rob Oliver, CEO of the CEA kicked off proceedings before handing over to Simon-Frere Cook, PLANTWORX exhibition director, he said, “‘The Grand Stand Draw for the allocation of the maxi stands very clearly demonstrates the commitment that 12 major construction companies are making to PLANTWORX 2013 and based on this commitment we now have a very firm base around which we will continue to build the event. We are very pleased to have achieved this commitment 18 months ahead of the event and is a very clear indication of the construction industry’s desire to hold PLANTWORX with its working demonstrations.” Patsy and Delboy then got to grips with the ‘lottery tombola’! The first ball to be drawn was Volvo and plot D – Mark Gunns of Volvo was rather pleased to be first out of the bag! The crowd cheered as the first company was placed on the site plan! Next out was Wacker Neuson and plot A – Wacker’s Chris Pearce looked delighted.
