THS – Maran Atha Fixings – The N
Having started trading in 1979 from a small office and warehouse, the company has expanded over the years, and is now situated in brand new premises which boast a 6000 sq foot warehouse and trade counter complex situated on a new trading estate at Ketterer Court on Jackson Street in St. Helens.
Over the past years the main business has been fixings and fasteners direct
into industry. Servicing various industries including automotive, building, electronics and railways, has allowed the company to forge a substantial customer base locally and across the UK and it now supplies its products as far as France, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary and Malta. After the move to Ketterer Court the company made the informed decision (after numerous requests from existing customers) to become a one stop shop and incorporate hand and power tools, silicone sealants, PPE, abrasives and cutting tools into its range. This has now grown even more since it linked up with THS Tools Group, which has allowed it to stock and source products from all the leading manufacturers. This along with the specialist knowledge on fasteners means Maran Atha is now able to satisfy practically all the needs of it’s customers, both new and old.
The move and subsequent expansion was not without its problems and recruiting the right staff was paramount and the right people with the right drive and determination were found from within the industry. As director Dave Hollihead explains “The specialist nature of our business means that you can’t just take on anyone. People come to us for our technical advice and knowledge, and that is something you just can’t compromise on, especially when we promote an honest and upfront approach to our customers and suppliers alike. Basically, if you make a mistake or forget to do something, you tell the customer the truth, then put it right.”
This simple ethic has its roots right back in the original formation of the company as director Roy Leach continues, “ When the company was founded by my parents who were practising Christians, the name “Maran Atha” was put into a hat along with various other names. Its literal meaning is “the Lord is coming” and it was taken from a passage in the Bible. It was with this Christian ethos in mind that the company laid its foundations as being honest and reliable in all aspects of the business.
So where does all this growth and expansion leave Maran Atha today? Sales Manager Nick Dyer picks up the story “I joined nearly six years ago now, after spells at other local companies and a good spell with Toolbank in Warrington. I had known Maran Atha for a number of years. The things that I liked most about them was their forward-thinking attitude, the new premises they had acquired and their links with THS Tools, which really would allow me to compete with the other suppliers in the town. This, coupled with a computer system that plots and traces every item of stock, delivery note and invoice from start to finish, meant that I knew I was on to a winner. The stock control system is, I think, one of the reasons we are so successful, because we have the ability to view the history of any item of stock we have ever bought or sold. This helps us to control stock on a daily basis and at the click of a mouse, add or remove parts, check stock and view previous prices. And not forgetting of course, because we are cheaper! But certainly the THS Tools Group link allows us to call upon 200+ suppliers to
