Powered Access & Lifting Gear

International Powered Access Federation

The Europlatform conference organized by the International Powered Access Federation was held on 13 September in Maastricht.

The keynote address was given by Alexandre Saubot, CEO of Haulotte. Mr Saubot suggested that European manufacturers and rental companies could anticipate change by looking at the US market, which more often than not signals the trends and the way global markets are heading. As risk cannot be completely mitigated, companies should aim for a strong balance sheet and a flexible business model, using the good times to prepare for the downturns. He also highlighted the need for the industry to create a reliable market database that can be used as a tool for planning for business growth and recession. Companies in the access industry need to anticipate the market and what their competitors will do, in order to be ready for a downturn and changed circumstances in this cyclical market.

The access rental industry faces a challenge to attract capital in the coming years, as capital remains scarce and investors look for moderate or low risk opportunities. “We need to recognise that companies that will attract capital will be those that can generate a superior return rather than just putting the money in a bank,” said Kevin Appleton, former Lavendon CEO. He observed that the financial crisis was a result of “problems of the heart; greed – we have been stealing from the past and borrowing from the future.”

The Europlatform conference brought together more than 100 attendees, and expert speakers who covered topics ranging from finance to machine safety.

The next Europlatform, will take place on 20 September 2012 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Watch for details at www.europlatform.info

Pramac

Good lifting and handling equipment makes economic and Health and Safety sense. The handling range from Pramac is huge - from simple pallet trucks to stackers and diesel, gas and electric powered counterbalance trucks. Below are a few up-to –date examples of the Pramac range. The GS basic pallet truck comes with a one year warranty, maximum weight pressure relief valve to protect the lifting mechanism and tough hi- visibility powder coat paint finish.

For high lift pallet trucks try the HX10 series that are stable, versatile and highly developed with electric motors and front stabilisers with an option for auto-leveling on the forks. A new product this year is the CX12 powered pallet truck... its the most compact truck in its class and provides a very competitive entry level product. It is compact for use in confined spaces and the ergonomic tiller makes for easy control and safe operation. For larger factory operations the QX ac Powered Pallet Truck range is ideal. Featuring external chargers and a sophisticated tiller steer that has “creep” speed for delicate and precise positioning of loads when stacking. The popular GX stacker is stronger and more compact than ever. With new protective battery covers and stronger steel used in its manufacture it is proving to be a customer favourite.

Highly sophisticated lifting in the form of the FLX Counterbalance range powered by Electric, Diesel or LPG are commonly hired or purchased by companies that value reliability, quality manufacture and good after sales service from a well-established European company.

A New Web CTE For CTE

It is not a new platform, but a completely

renewed web site with a new layout and new contents.

CTE web site is now a “place” for learning about the company thanks to new videos available on line, interactive images and an easier, intuitive usability. 500 visitors enter every day to find information about CTE products, to ask quotations, to look for second-hand platforms, to read about them, book training courses or contact CTE for any after-sales request. CTE has improved its web site offering an easier, faster and dynamic navigability starting from an appealing and lively home page. Four different key points have driven the restyling: attention to content

usability, exhaustive and clear presentation of product range thanks to the emphasis on videos and images, content optimization satisfying the SEO criteria of searching engines, and last but not least the possibility to consult the web site by smartphones or tablets.

The homepage has been built to catch the attention thanks to scrolling images on the central part of the page. This area has been created to show 4 different concepts (International mission, dealer’s world, CTE’s pay off “work becomes easy” and Training – Service).

An important novelty of the CTE new web site is the Dealer’s World section,

a window on CTE world that the company opens to its historical and potential dealer: the meaning of being a CTE dealer and the opportunities CTE offers to its dealers.

Youngman Extends Its Micro Scissor Lift Range

With A Self-Propelled Unit Earlier this year, Youngman Group added the BoSS X3X-SP self-propelled micro scissor lift to its highly successful range of BoSS X-Series units. This new machine has been designed to be the smallest, lightest and most manoeuvrable self- propelled lift currently available and offers a host of features that set new standards of performance in low-level access. The 495 kg X3X-SP has a maximum working height and safe working load of 5.14 m and 150 kg respectively and, thanks to an overall width of just 0.76 m, can easily pass through a standard doorway or into a passenger lift. Like its push around stablemates it is equipped with a tilt sensor and overload protection for maximum on-site safety. A key feature of the machine is its ability to be driven and precisely manoeuvred by the operator, turning within its own footprint of only 1.27m, even at full height and with the 0.4 m platform extension in place. This ability to drive the platform from work point to work point without the operator having to dismount and manually push the unit each time saves considerable time and effort. In addition, a castor lock feature ensures accurate straight line driving as well as pothole protection activation.
