SINCE the days of the Super Nintendo in the early ‘90s, Mario Karthas been one of Nintendo’s most sucessful franchises. The series has grown enormously since then with Mario Kart Wii selling around 30m units and Mario Kart DStopping 20m units globally to date. It is also a commercial runaway success. Now, six years after the last portable Mario Kart, millions of fans are eagerly waiting for the series’ 3DS debut. “The Mario Kartfranchise continues to evolve,” says Roger Langford, junior product manager at Nintendo. “New courses, strategic new abilities and customisable karts bring the racing excitement to new heights.” Boasting underwater sections, hang gliders, Miis and stages taken from Donkey Kong Country Returnsand Wii Sports Resort, Mario Kart 7promises to be more than just another instalment in the series.

PLAY YOUR KARTS RIGHT All the fan-favourite characters return including Bowser, Yoshi, and the plumber himself, while new racers include Metal Mario and Lakitu. Players can even race with their own Mii characters. Gamers can also modify their karts, choosing from a variety of sizes, shapes and tyres. Smaller tyres are ideal for tarmac tracks while chunkier ones are perfect for off-road stages. Mario Kart 7also uses the 3DS’
SpotPass and StreetPass features, with gamers able to race each other in local wireless matches or online. They can also exchange time trial data wirelessly and beat each other’s fastest times. Alongside Super Mario 3D
Land, Mario fans will be in for a treat with not one, but two brand new Mario games to keep them satisfied over the festive period.
