REDCOMMENDED: METALLIC RED 3DS Metallic Red 3DS

To celebrate one million sales in Europe, the 3DS is getting a new colour. Billy Langsworthy takes a look

3D IN RED Following on from last year’s red Wii, this new Metallic Red 3DS joins the Cosmos Black and Aqua Blue colours. It comes ahead of the arrival of two 3DS exclusive Mariogames, Super Mario 3D Landand Mario Kart 7. Nintendo says the colour will appeal to all, and is another reason for DS owners to purchase a 3DS.

PRICE CUT Consumers are sure to flock to the new red 3DS following the console’s recent price cut. Its new price tag of around £149.99 looks set to ensure the ongoing success of the handheld.

MOVIE-MAKING MAESTROS Alongside taking pictures in 3D, the Nintendo 3DS will get a system update this November which will also let users record clips in full 3D. This will give consumers the chance to try their hand at being the next James Cameron and use their creativity or just record simple home videos for fun.

3DS RECAP

The Nintendo 3DS arrived in March this year and it became the company’s fastest-selling piece of hardware at launch. Boasting stereoscopic 3D capabilities without the need for the player to wear glasses, it can also play standard DS games. The device comes with six augmented reality cards that display 3D characters on-screen when the 3DS’ outer cameras are pointed at them. As well as the 3DS’ eShop which lets players purchase and download games, the 3DS also has StreetPass and SpotPass – two features that let users trade game information and play one another wirelessly while on the move.
