WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES Sarah Groff earned the first-ever podium finish for an American woman in the ITU World Championship Series on June 19 by racing to the bronze medal in Kitzbuhel. Manuel Huerta led the U.S. men, placing 24th overall. Groff placed 13th to pace a trio of American women in action July 17 in Hamburg. The top men’s finisher was Jarrod Shoemaker in 47th place.
Jorgensen and Groff placed sixth and seventh, respectively, Aug. 20 at the ITU Elite Sprint Triathlon World Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland. The United States’ squad of Groff, Barrett Brandon, Jorgensen and Mark Fretta placed fifth at the ITU Team Triathlon World Championships.
WORLD CUPS Tiszaujvaros: Just one week after earning a spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team, Jorgensen followed a breakthrough performance in London with her first career World Cup victory. Edmonton: Three-time Olympian Hunter Kemper earned bronze at the July 10 race.
ELITE RACE SERIES Kemper and Canada’s Chantell Widney were victorious June 18 at the second stop of the 2011 USA Triathlon Elite Race Series, the Tri Monroe — Gateway to Adventure.
Canadians Sarah-Anne Brault and Matthew Sharpe edged American runners-up Kaitlin Shiver and Ethan Brown to top the podium July 9 at the San Francisco Triathlon at Treasure Island, the third of five events in the 2011 USA Triathlon Elite Race Series.
In Kitzbuhel, Sarah Groff earned the first WCS podium finish for a U.S. woman.
