“My favorite way to practice swimming is practicing at home in our pool by swimming underwater and watching other people swim.” — Hazel Crossman, 6, South Glens Falls, N.Y.

“My favorite ways to practice swimming are playing in our pool with friends and racing my parents. My favorite ways to practice biking are mountain biking and riding yard courses. I love practicing running by playing sports that involve run- ning.”

“My favorite way to swim is in my pool. Every time it is hot, I ask to get in the pool. I usually start with swimming under and over the water. I have races with my mom.” — Evelyn Roskos, 8, Fairmont, W.Va.

“My mom sets up mini triathlons to practice my swim, bike, run and transitions. My brother and I do the swim leg in our pool, and we set up our transition on our driveway. The rest of the mini tri is done on our street. Sometimes my dad does the run with me.”

Drafting is not allowed at most triathlons, so you’ll need to keep three bike lengths between you and the person in front of you. If you need to pass someone, you have to pass them in 15 seconds.
