Behind the Scenes BIKE CHECK-IN
Athletes showed up at the venue on Friday afternoon to rack their bikes as part of the mandatory bike check-in. Because of the size of the field, Friday’s bike check-in allows athletes to have part of their equipment in order, allowing for a smoother experience on race morning.
VENUE SET-UP
Event set-up wrapped up Friday evening, and the finish line awaits the nearly 2,500 athletes who would compete in either Age Group or Sprint Nationals.
PRODUCTION MEETING For the first time, USA Triathlon was
able to provide a live stream of the event on its website. Prior to race start, USA Triathlon’s Tim Yount, Jayla Peterson, and Chuck Menke meet with the director of the stream, Scott Hicken of Narrow Path Productions, to run through the agenda one last time.
INFORMATION TENT VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are crucial to the success of any event, especially an event the size of Age Group Nationals. In addition to volunteer check-in, the information tent serves as a resource for athletes and spectators who may need guidance on lost or forgotten race-day essentials or places to watch the race.
MEDALS
All Age Group and Sprint Nationals competitors received a finisher’s medal after completing their race.
AWARDS
The 2011 Age Group National Championship wraps up with a packed house at the awards ceremony, held at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel.
