Regions FLORIDA
The majority of the multisport community is beginning to think about one last race and then offseason training. On the other hand, here in Florida we have the luxury of training and racing year-round. With triathlon events stretching into January 2012 and duathlon events posted year-round, there is never a lull in any serious athlete’s schedule. While the offseason leaves most competitors trapped indoors on the treadmill or bike trainer, this is the time that Florida athletes thrive, taking every opportunity to swim, bike and run in the comfortable weather we usually don’t see. So next time you’re on the treadmill or trainer fantasizing about summer training, schedule a Florida tri-cation and make that dream a reality!
Plan a Florida tri-cation to avoid doing this all winter.
PACIFIC NORTHWEST Triathletes across the
country trained and raced in record hot temperatures this year with an exception being The Eagle River Triathlon. This sprint race was held June 5 in Eagle River, Alaska. Tri-The-Kenai Triathlon, also a sprint-distance race, in Kenai, Alaska, was held June 12. The Women’s Gold Nugget Triathlon, which is “dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through athletics,” was held in Anchorage, Alaska. The race allows for mother and daughter relay teams and provides financial aid to those who can’t afford the entry fee.
All proceeds of late-season events Plutonium Man Triathlon (Richland, Wash.) and the Wallowa State Park Triathlon (Joseph, Ore.) benefit Safe Harbors.
The International Sports Fest at Ko’olina, Hawaii, will be held Oct. 15-16. The festival offers a sprint triathlon, a sprint duathlon, youth race, 5k and 10k runs and an aquathlon. Finally, the Ultraman race will take place on the big island in Hawaii on Nov. 25- 27. The event starts with a 10k swim followed by a 145k bike. The second day is a 276k bike with over 8,500 vertical feet gained. The third stage includes a double marathon that finishes on the beach at Old Airport State Park. The race is a limited field of 40 competitors who must complete each of the stages within 12
