amian McPherson, a British PGA pro who

moved to Hungary in 1998, has been awarded a Knights Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary for his work in establishing a golfing culture there. The award, similar to a

place on the UK’s New Year’s honours list and selected by the president of the state and the prime minister, took place on August 18. It is the highest award that a civilian can be awarded in Hungary and entitles him to be addressed as ‘Sir Damian’. “It has been granted for

my efforts in golf in Hungary during the last 13 years,” he explained “This is the first time in the country’s history that such an award has been awarded for our sport.” Thanks to Sir Damian, there

is now an established PGA with some 40 members, an estimated number of players of up to 3,000 and some dozen golfing facilities.
