professional, Marshall, who is in training for next year’s London Marathon, teamed up with the Kent club’s captain McMahon for the PGA Pro-Captain event held at the Surrey venue. And they shot a nine-

under-par round of 62, tying at the top of the leaderboard with the Beauport Park Golf Club pairing of Charles Giddins and Kim Baker but emerged winners on countback after a strong back nine. They were one shot clear

of Alresford Golf Club’s Philip Bryden and Ian Swann. Marshall made the

second hole-in-one of his professional career at the 13th hole while McMahon birdied the 18th. Their display earned them a

place in the £25,000 Lombard Challenge Grand Final that will be held at the PGA Sultan Course at Antalya Golf Club from November 25-26.

10 Boyce Hill pair left shocked Left to right: Rob Hubbard and Graham Burroughs F

ormer champions Graham Burroughs and Robbie Hubbard were left stunned after they rediscovered the winning formula to regain

the PGA Super 60s Tournament title. The Boyce Hill duo, winners at Blackwell in 2009, found their touch

over the Lakes Course at Lincolnshire’s Belton Woods as they carded a best-of-the-day eight-under-par 64 to ease to a tournament-winning 12-under 132. They took the title, which is open to pros and amateurs aged 60

and over, by two shots from Chesterfield PGA pro, Michael McLean, and partner, Jack Wheeldon, who shared second place with PGA chairman Phil Weaver (Coventry Golf Club) and PGA chief executive, Sandy Jones, at 10-under-par. Both added 66s to their opening 68s. Burroughs and Hubbard, who began the day four shots off the

pace, expressed their shock at bursting at taking the title for the second time in three years, after opening with a four-under 68. The win also saw Burroughs pick up £1,250 from the £10,000 prize fund.

Panton-Lewis puts one-day series win down to new clubs

C

atherine Panton-Lewis attributes a WPGA one-

day series victory down to a new set of clubs as she took the honours at Stoke by Nayland Golf Club last month. The Scot, playing for Ascot’s the Berkshire Club, beat Suzanne Dickens of Thorpe Wood Golf Course in Peterborough, and Wellshurst Golf and Country’s Club’s Maria Tulley, by just one stroke. Panton-Lewis, a founding member of the Ladies European Tour who was added to Edinburgh University Sports Union’s Hall of Fame this summer, carded a three-under-par round of 71 to edge out Dickens. But despite Panton-Lewis’s

wealth of experience in the game, she admitted that the result came as a surprise to her as she triumphed in the fifth event of the series at the Essex venue. She said: “I went there with

a new driver and a new three wood, so I’m putting the win down to that. It’s amazing how some new clubs can help your game and on this occasion I was able to win which was tremendous.”
