Viscom introduces theS2088-II desktop AOI inspection system to the US market. This new system is designed for automatic optical inspection (AOI) of paste print, pre- and post-refl ow, and THT solder joints. The S2088-II now includes a high-
performance 8M camera technology with the same angled inspection and OnDemandHR function as Viscom’s established inline systems. Faster loading/unloading and large PCB fi xturing are two key advantages of the new system.
ACD Develops Virtual Gerber® Checks
ACD, a leading supplier to the electronics industry, has taken CAM and Gerber checks to a new level with its new virtual PCB layer overlay. “Going paperless on our manual design checks allows
us to respond quicker at a lower cost, while reducing the amount of velum going to the landfi ll. Our designers did a great job creating this process,” commented W. Scott Fillebrown, ACD’s President & CEO. Using post script and photo editing software, ACD is
able to simulate the paper in black and white, and change the opacity and force a vellum appearance. The designers are able to change the pages they view and simulate a “pinched paper slide.” Using a 42” LCD display, ACD is now able to view the
plots in actual size and the software permits designers to zoom in to verify tight areas. In the past, only one designer

inspection stages from paste print, pre- and post-refl ow to THT solder joint inspection. Integration of 8M camera technology, supporting both
larger PCBS up to 20 x 18”. Boards are changed within a few seconds due to a directly accessible PCB tray. A mobile work table, designed especially for this system, is available as an option. This desktop system is the ideal solution for customers that need an entry-level, offl ine AOI system that offers program portability to existing or future inline systems. For example, a program developed on the desktop S2088-II for low-volume new product introduction (NPI) boards also can be used in high-volume inline AOI machines overseas.
