Poker focus slips
Ladbrokes CEO Richard Glynn has admitted that his firm has taken the eye off the ball when it comes to poker, but said that the bookmaker will be focusing on its suppliers in the future. He commented: “We have as a management team really prioritised on sportsbook, on yield, on bingo and casino. Poker is an area where we haven’t focussed. It doesn’t mean we’re not providing excellent service to the customers that we have, but it hasn’t been our area of priority.”

SPORTINGBET IS MAKING ITSELF MORE APPEALING TO LADBROKES
Sportingbet is due to secure the purchase of Australian business Centrebet any day now, bringing the group’s potential acquisition of Ladbrokes that step closer, but the issue of Sportingbet’s Turkish operations would need to be resolved before that takes place. Ladbrokes CEO Richard Glynn was adamant that the company would not take on any risk from unregulated markets therefore the talks with GVC would have to come to fruition before a deal of around £350m could be agreed. While the European
Commission has said the proposed German State Treaty is in breach of EU law, it is still possible it will go ahead, meaning GVC will have to look elsewhere for revenues and Sportingbet’s Turkish business has become available at just the right time.
