icom Leisure, a corporate and businessadvisory boutique specialised in the gaming indus- try since 1996, has just released an update on the online betting and gaming market in Spain.
from Ficom F
The update includes market statistics and estimates as well as a legal analysis of the new Gaming Law, in co-operation with Baker & McKenzie, whereby operators will now need to apply for an online gaming li- cence.
Christian Tirabassi, Ficom Leisure man- aging director and senior advisor, com- mented: “Spain is, in our opinion, the new li- censed online gaming market to look at in Europe after Italy, thanks to a comprehen- sive portfolio of permitted and viable gam- ing taxation mainly based in Gross Gaming Revenues. With 35m adults, a long tradition in gambling, an average spending per per- son in gambling of more than 400 euro per year and the potential to reach simultane- ously several Latin American markets, Spain is an extremely attractive igaming market.”

The player can benefit from synchro- nised breaks, showdown percentage dis- play, time-bank, customisable tourney ta- bles and many other features.
Despite a decline in offline gambling in Spain exacerbated by the difficult economic climate, the country is experiencing year after year spectacular growth in the online segment. Overall, Gross Gaming Revenues from online gambling are estimated to have reached 315m euro in 2010 and are forecast- ed to reach 400m euro by the end of 2011. The new Gaming Law passed in May pro- vides the framework, principles and regula- tion of online gaming and operators will re- quire general and game specific national li- censes. At the same time, the wide portfolio of allowed games and the viable taxation in- cluded in the law are expected to provide a further major boost to the sector in the same way it happened in Italy and in France. Tirabassi added: “Within this evolution
and growth we see tremendous opportuni- ties for international operators looking to further expand in this promising market, as well as for local land based operators that can now enter the online segment and capi- talise on their brands, player base and distri- bution networks.”
