Let’s How long have you been trading?


41 years - started in a small shop then moved to here 30 years ago.


What are your opening hours? Mon-Fri 9am - 5.30pm Sat 9am - 5pm Sun 10am - 1.30pm


How many employees do you have? 4 employees, 2 owners, who work in shop.


Which is your busiest day? Monday


Do you have regular customers? Yes - lots of them and many new ones who become regular.


When is your busiest time of year? Why do you think this is? Sept-Dec for decorating and Easter for gardening.


Do particular lines sell well at different times of year? If so, which ones?


Gardening - fencing Easter. Coal-Gas fires etc Oct - March. Outdoor products - Easter until end Sept. Building products, all year.


Do you encourage reps to visit? We have regular reps but they don't call every week and we 'phone if we need help.


How do you follow up if a product catches your eye? Ring the company and get details sent. We also send in the cards in trade mags.


Why do you deal with particular tool companies? I like to deal with companies who are organised with catalogues and price lists.


How would a company with good products to sell come to your notice? Reps call in as they are passing or if they move companies. We also read trade mags and get emails.


Do you have a surprising 'best seller'? If so what is it? Not really - we sell lots of products on a regular basis.


What changes are afoot?


The younger end of the family are gradually taking over with the founders doing less.


How do you see the future of the tool trade? I think it will get better after the recession because people always need to do jobs on their homes.
