KEC Youth Tour Winners Return Home Marks 48th year to send students to D.C.

High School, recently returned home from an eventful, fun-filled week in Washington, D.C. Hutchinson and Kirby were winners of the 2011 Kay Electric “Youth Tour Contest.” Hutchinson is the daughter of Chad and Stacey Hutchinson of Lamont and Kirby is the son of Kyle and Barbara Kirby of Lamont. The 48th Annual Rural Electric Co- operative Youth Tour began with a “Get Acquainted Banquet” in Okla- homa City, and an early morning plane ride to the nation’s capi- tal. Hutchinson and Kirby were among 72 winners, represent- ing 25 of the state’s rural elec- tric systems. ”Meeting all the new people from other states and touring our national monuments were the most memorable parts of my trip,” Kirby said. Hutchison was impressed with the World War I Memorial, and added, “Finding my great- grandpa’s name on the wall was pretty special.” In addition to seeing all the his-


torical monuments and taking photos of the White House, the Oklahoma win- ners toured the Library of Congress, The U.S. Capitol, The U.S. Holocaust Museum, The Pentagon, Mount Vernon and enjoyed a riverboat cruise on the

On June 13, the young Oklahomans met with more than 1500 other Youth Tour winners from across the nation at a dinner-dance hosted by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.


“Youth Tour is an amazing opportu- nity and Connor and Baleigh were well deserving of the trip,” said Aus- tin Partida, KEC’s Youth Tour Coordinator. “Getting the chance to tour all of the national monuments and just being in D.C., is some- thing very special for these students.” Finalists
