Simon Fell Markel Markel UK promotes Simon
Fell as divisional managing director. Previously underwriting manager, he joined in 2002. Prior to that he was the underwriting manager at R E Brown. He succeeds Steve Carroll who has been promoted to director of Retail UK and overseas for Markel International.
Mike Henderson joins as broker account manager, with Simon Mulvee as business development assistant. Liz Perry and Ruth Briscoe are appointed as commercial combined underwriter and underwriting assistant respectively. Tracy Harding joins as senior commercial combined underwriter, with Samuel Oatley as business development assistant and Andrew Shepherd as commercial combined underwriter. Hastings Hastings Direct appoints Steve Carroll Allianz
Allianz appoints Joe Kajdi as a senior underwriter for their motor trade team. He joins from Travelers where he has spent 20 years in various underwriting roles.
HDI-Gerling
HDI-Gerling appoints Mark Appleton as liability underwriting director for the UK and Ireland. With 20 years’ liability underwriting experience, he joins from RSA where he was European casualty director and has also held senior positions at Chubb and CNA.
Tobias Van Der Meer as managing director of Hastings Retail. Previously a managing director at
moneysupermarket.com, he also spent nearly a decade in direct banking, with senior roles at egg, Citigroup and the Anglo Irish bank. Mark Adams becomes the new chief financial officer. He has over 15 years’ experience across various sectors. He was interim CFO at easyJet; both group finance director and then CEO at Helphire; and CFO at Alpha Airports and STA Travel.

based financial services provider Rees Astley appoints Chris Tombleson as independent financial adviser. He has 31 years’ experience in the financial services industry and began his career at Equity and Law (later AXA). He has also worked for Severn Valley Financial Services (later Layton Blackham) and as financial services manager at Towergate.

Cooper Gay appoints two divisional directors to its downstream energy team. Neil Jurd joins from Alesco Risk Management Services where he led their onshore broking team. Jon Parker joins from GCFac where he was senior vice president within the global property division.

director, Cathedral Underwriting will remain on the board and Barnabas Hurst-Bannister will continue as chairman for the next 12 months.
Professor Stefan Materne Amlin
Amlin AG in Zurich appoints Professor Stefan Materne to the board of directors. He holds the chair for risk management and reinsurance at the Institute for Insurance Studies of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. He previously worked in leading positions for Cologne Re /Gen Re.
Travelers Travelers Europe appoints
Kendra Felisky as chief risk officer who joins from Deloitte LLP where she was director in the actuarial and insurance solutions consulting practice. She has also held leadership roles at CNA Re and CX Re and was previously a consultant in the UK and US.

Insurance appoints Sue Renny as legal services manager. Previously senior project manager, she joined DAS in 1997 after completing a law degree and MA in criminal justice.
