T

he Allen & Allen Group has warned that many young drivers are risking invalidating their motor insurance by not declaring modifications to their vehicles. The general consensus among young motorists that “it’s better to keep quiet about modifications as the premium will only go up” is becoming an increasingly worrying trend, says the company.

Steve McPherson, of the Allen & Allen Group, comments, “The practice of fitting

modifications to a motor vehicle has a cult-like status, particularly among 17 to 25-year-old male drivers. Choosing not to declare these modifications to the insurance broker is extremely foolish and the motorist risks losing everything if the vehicle is involved in an accident or is stolen.

“Due to the high percentage of fraudulent claims in recent years, insurance firms are taking a far more stringent position when processing claims, checking that the correct information has been provided in the first place and making sure there are no discrepancies. In some cases, where discrepancies are found, insurance claims are declared invalid.”
