arkerstudy Group has acquired Blagrove Insurance Brokers Ltd, of Carterton, Oxfordshire, its first foray into commercial motor, underlining its plans for

Established in 2004, Blagrove has a GWP of around £4 million. Its existing team will be retained, says Markerstudy, meaning that it is “business as usual” at Carterton. Says Kevin Spencer, Markerstudy CEO, “We believe that the broker market offers tremendous opportunity and we will continue to grow the retail arm of our business, headed up by Russell Bence. My opinion is that the commercial motor market shows signs of hardening rates, providing us with even greater impetus.”
BGLemployees in dragon boat tournament O
ver 1,000 employees and their families from BGL Group attended a dragon boat tournament in Peterborough at the end of May. In all, 15 teams from BGL took part in the competition, each entering ten rowers and a drummer to race three 40ft dragon boats. The event raised over £45,000

for Marie Curie Cancer Care, BGL’s corporate charity partner.
Each team had to raise £2,000 to take part in the race, which they generated through fund-raising events, individual sponsorship and supplier donations. The overall winners were the IT executive team.

iles Insurance Brokers has appointed John McLaren Stewart as UK sales director, a newly created role designed “to create a cohesive retail sales strategy” and to support bank
introducer relations and focus on new sales initiatives. Sarah Lyons, group MD, says, “As part of our strategy this year we have chosen to focus on our organic growth and we see mid- corporate and corporate as fundamental areas of growth. Earlier this year we launched our new corporate proposition and we are now pushing into a much more sales focused effort across all our branches.”
The company has also appointed Kevin Bonner as branch director of the corporate and financial risks division, based in the city of London.
