Northern Territory Etihad partnership to push NT
BY JULIE BAXTER Tourism Northern Territory and
Etihad Airways have joined forces to launch a six-week-long marketing campaign which kicks off on March 7. The campaign celebrates Etihad's connections to Darwin and the Red Centre, in partnership with Virgin Blue, which makes the Northern Territory more accessible from the UK. The campaign primarily targets UK commuters, with advertising in London, the South East and the North West. Manchester is a key hub for Etihad following the recent launch of a premium lounge, and the introduction of a larger aircraft to serve the city. It will operate an additional three flights per week from June this year to complement the current daily service. Fleur Burrows, consumer marketing
manager for Tourism NT, said: “We’re delighted to be collaborating with Etihad (and Virgin Blue) to promote connectivity to the Territory and support
our growth plans." The UK remains the Northern
Territory’s largest source of international visitors. Around 60,000 Brits visited NT in 2010 – and they stayed for an average of 8.4 nights. Almost 10 per cent of all visitors to Australia included the NT on their itinerary, attracted mainly by iconic
destinations such as Ayers Rock and Alice Springs. But many also spend time in Darwin and explore the outback with tours through the Red Centre. The region also has a wide range of wildlife attractions – from croc-spotting to camel-trekking. For more information on the NT see:

Wine touring - there's an app for that Tourism Victoria is moving its wine
touring options into the digital era by developing a dedicated 'app'. Building on the success of its official
Wine Regions of Victoria guide, the new iPhone app gives similar wine- realted advice and information in an app format. The Wine Regions of Victoria app provides information about
Victoria’s 22 wine regions and more than 240 wineries. It includes mapping functionality to make touring easier, offers a 'nearest winery’ locator, an itinerary planner and a list builder which allows users to take note of their favourite wineries and make tasting notes. The app is free at iTtunes.
