NEWS Natal signs Tichy
Whitesnake drummer becomes the second big name artist to join British percussion manufacturer’s roster
NATAL HAS added Brian Tichy to its international artist roster. Tichy is the drummer for Whitesnake and has also played with Billy Idol, Foreigner, Slash’s Snakepit, Velvet Revolver, Ozzy Osbourne and Seether. He has become Natal’s second major new endorsee after the signing of Christoff “Swiss” Flueck. Tichy is currently rehearsing with Whitesnake prior to the start of their world tour, where they will become the first band to take a full
Marshall backline on the road. Tichy will be touring with a Natal Birch kit. His kit is finished in Grey Sparkle and
features Natal ‘Tru-Tune’ tension rods, the Natal Resonant Mount (NRM) and aluminium ball joint tom mounts. “They have paid attention to detail
and have gone that extra mile to build drums, hardware and pedals that look great, sound awesome and are totally roadworthy,” said Tichy. NATAL: 01908 272605
Live music generates £1.4bn
LIVE MUSIC events in the UK provide the economy with almost £1 billion a year. According to an industry survey
of festivals and concerts, more than 7.7 million attended large- scale music events in 2009 and generated £1.4 billion in spending, resulting in a positive contribution to the economy of £864 million. The equivalent of 19,700 jobs
have also been sustained due to this expenditure. Around one fifth of the total came from overseas tourists, who spend 25 per cent more than tourists who don’t come over for music-related activities. UK Music has urged the Government to introduce a live-music tourism strategy to increase the number of visitors to the UK. "The role of music in terms of
creating jobs, in terms of sustaining businesses and in terms of attracting visitors to all regions of this country comes over loud and clear," said Feargal Sharkey, chief executive of UK Music.

"We will do all we can to work with policy-makers and tourism bodies to realise the potential of this considerable economic asset." The music industry organisation
also highlighted a number of key areas that could be improved within this area of the industry. These included tackling the
difficulties overseas performers regularly face with the UK visa system, creating a facility that allows fans to trade and sell tickets they no longer need and ensuring small venues are made exempt from the 2003 Licensing Act.
