Almost 100 buyers from tour operators and specialist agents and 50 exhibitors attended the PATA Exchange 2011 in London earlier this year. The event, now in its third year,
brings together tourism boards, hotel groups, airlines and tour operators from across the Asia Pacific region in one appointments- based forum designed to give the UK travel trade direct one-to-one access to the region’s leading travel and tourism players. Ian Hawkes, executive director of
the PATA UK Chapter, said “It has been exciting to see this event build over the three years since its launch. It was great to have so many familiar names exhibit again this year as well as welcoming some new faces such as Philippines Tourism, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Orion Expedition Cruises and the South Australian Tourism Commission.” After yet another successful PATA Exchange it is clear that this is now a serious event for the travel trade. Many of the sellers had been exhibiting at ITB in Berlin and stopped off in London – a sure sign they feel that PATA Exchange is a very effective marketplace for them. PATA received many positive comments about the day. For example, the Philippines Department of Tourism said: “This was our first year at the PATA Exchange and we hadn't realised until we attended that it was such an efficient, effective and productive forum. The quality of enquiries was excellent, the appointments system worked really well and we have already decided that we will definitely be back in 2012.”
