With new resort openings and innovative extras to entice their clients, agents selling the Indian Ocean need to stay ahead of the game as standards keep rising, says Jane Anderson

he Indian Ocean is leading the way when it comes to the range of luxury products it offers and
there are plenty of great deals to be had for agents who know where to look. First up is the Maldives, a destination
that has pushed luxury to a whole new level, with underwater spas, private atoll dining and high-tech overwater villas.

When Huvafen Fushi opened in the Maldives it broke the mould. So it’s with some anticipation that Per Aquum Resorts has released details of Niyama. Due to open in late 2011 it promises to be an edgy, ground-breaking resort that will put a fresh twist on the luxury beach holiday. A unique selling point will be its underwater club and champagne
bar situated directly below Aquum, the resort’s signature restaurant set on a standalone structure and only accessible by boat. A new LIME Spa will be open 24 hours a day. Viceroy Hotels & Resorts will
move out of its comfort zone of the US and Caribbean later this year to open Viceroy Maldives, with 61 villas,
Treehouse lounge and Kids’ Zone amongst its attractions. The ever-expanding Anantara group opened Anantara Kihavah Villas in February with 78 spacious private pool sanctuaries, the longest swimming pool in the Maldives, spa treatments on a private yacht and the Maldives’ first underwater wine cellar.
