Lights! Camera! Cure Diabetes! The Greater New Haven Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will hold its annual Dream Gala on Saturday May 7, at New Haven’s Omni Hotel. This years theme, reminiscent of old Hollywood, is “Lights, Camera, Cure!” Starting at 6 p.m., the Dream Gala features dinner, auctions, and entertainment with CounterPoint Big Band. This year’s honorees are the diabetes educators and clinicians of the Yale Children’s Diabetes Center. Performing in their honor will be special guest, 2005 American Idol contestant, Ayla Brown. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, established in 1970, is an international, non-profit organization whose mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. Each year it invites the public to get involved with programs in branches and affiliates around the world, hosting a number of events to raise funds for research into diabetes, including: walks and rides to cure diabetes; the Swing for a Cure Golf Outing; and, the annual Dream Gala. n Tickets start at $200. Fitness Training for Sound Minds & Bodies


Three years ago, three women with similar, but varied, backgrounds teamed up to offer clients a choice of fitness classes in the same facility. At their current Milford location since 2009, and operating under the name Sound Mind and Body, Andrea Mullen, owner of Fitness for Women and Not Just Yoga and Nancy Hammett, original owner of Sound Mind and Body, teach classes in yoga, NIA (an energetic, body-centered philosophy based on body sensations as the pathway to fitness and well-being), strength training and cardio for men and women. Rosemary Tierney teaches Pilates, conducts private sessions on the Reformer, and offers family yoga and ballroom dance with her husband, Bill. Private sessions for all fitness modes are available at the studio or in homes. The women tend toward a holistic fitness approach, believing it is important to listen to the body and utilize good form and technique. Other offerings at the

center include: Yoga Dance with Andrea Cashman for Parkinson’s patients and former couch potatoes; a weight management program for adults and children from 10 to 17 focused on building muscle and decreasing body fat; restorative yoga for beginners or those recovering from an injury; and, prenatal yoga. Heart in Hands Celebrates 20 Years with Massage Discount
