Participants Wanted for Healing Community Dance

Clark Dance Theatre is seeking participants for its upcoming community event “Healing Dance on the Green.” This dance, set to Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major, was born out of years of study of qigong by choreographer and Clark Dance Theatre member June Can, a local author, dancer, artist, and healer. She wanted to create a work in the inherent rhythm of nature that would spread and extend healing energy to the audience and out in the world. The goal is to gather 100 participants to dance together on town Greens throughout the state. “Healing Dance on the Green” is based on the interconnectedness of all life. June believes that energy can and will reach those who are open to it, that one hundred people doing restorative, balancing movements together will be more powerful than eight or ten people doing them, and the unified energy can thereby reach more people. The hope is that participants who witness and/ or experience the positive loving energy of the piece will connect more deeply to themselves and the universal healing energies that are available to everyone. n To participate in “Healing Dance on the Green,” contact jclarkdance@hotmail.com, or visit www.clarkdancetheatre. org (New Projects). To reach June Can, call 203.230.1197, or visit http://junecanchannel.blogspot.com, Facebook: June Can Channel. See ad on page 51.

Documentary Envisions a Healthier New Haven

In the summer of 2010, the New Haven Health Department began considering how to engage communities about societal factors that impact health (i.e., living conditions, transportation, employment status). With resources obtained through a grant from the Connecticut Association for Directors of Health, the Visions of a Healthier New Haven campaign was launched. As part of the project, over 800 surveys and interviews were completed by New Haven residents from all walks of life, including questions such as “what is your vision for a healthier New Haven?” and “how do we build it?” On May 11, at Stetson Branch Library (5:30 p.m.), New Haven Health Equity Alliance and Health Matters! will host the screening of a resulting local documentary, “Visions Of A Healthier New Haven.” In the film, New Haven politicians, local residents/students,
