AMA National Southwest Area Qualifier Kade Walker O

ne of seven 2011 AMA Amateur Nationals Southwest qualifiers was held at The Ranch. Formerly called Rynoland, the track is now operated by Marc Peters. The son of CMC's Stu Peters, his credentials include being a highly regarded professional track builder with his easel covering the world with nearly twenty years of track designing experience. The track was fully prepared for the onslaught of Amateurs with stars in their eyes, combining technical sections with off-camber and traditional motoross sections that became very rough through the day.

This was the first time the facility had held an

AMA qualifier, and the first time CMC's Stu Peters headed an AMA Qualifier since the mid 1970's. There was a $3000 Pro purse split among the "A" class and Pro Sports adding to the action. For the Area Qualifier the top nine will go to the Regional Qualifier at Competitive Edge in June, with the top five heading to Tennessee for the AMA Amateur Nationals in early August. In this report we will cover the first day of racing on Saturday which is mostly Stock classes, with the Modified bikes scheduled on Sunday.

Vance & Hines racer Preston Tilford, put his

Yamaha to the peak of the pack as North Carolina's Jacob Hayes loomed ominously in second, in the early going of moto one in the 450A/Pro-Am. Hayes pressure finally got the best of Tilford as he made his way into the front seat on lap three and motored on for the win, Tilford second. Matt Inda held third for most of the moto and stayed that position at the checkers, Tyler Bereman, and John Pauk fifth. Hayes used the same recipe in moto two turning the heat on leader Tilford and securing the point to the finish with Tilford second. Bereman established the third spot by the second lap and held on to the checkers, Pauk, and Inda fifth. The top five in the twenty-two racer field are Hayes (1-1), Tilford (2-2) second, Bereman (4-3) third, Inda (3-5), and Pauk (5-4) fifth overall. Austin Politelli looked very comfortable riding off with both motos in the 250A/Pro-Am for the win, Hayes and Tilford were second and third respectively. Thomas Covington won an AMA National Championship in 2008 and wants more, so he promptly bombarded the pack at the start and went on his way working up a several bike length lead over Kyle Wolack in moto one of the 250B Stock. He had his choice of lines on the loamy surface and easily took the win over Wolack. Chris Carrillo coming off a good run in the 2011 Gold Cup takes third, Chris Proscelle, and Alyas Wardius fifth. Wardius seemed to be searching for his groove and put on a good moto two grabbing the baton and holding tight for the moto win, Covington second, Wolack third, Garrett Eckman, and Proscelle fifth. The top five are Covington (1-2), Wolack (2-3), Wardius (5-1) third, Proscelle (4-5), and Carrillo fifth overall. Wardius went on to the overall in the 450B. Kade Walker, Rockstar Suzuki's Tristain Miller, and Kawasaki/Monster Energy's Blake Green put on

a heck of a race in moto one of the 85 (12-14) Stock. Walker had the early lead but Green and Miller were both ahead of him on lap two. The three were on fire but Walker prevailed for the win holding back Miller after Green went down, Miller second, and Green rallying for third. Walker finished up with both moto victories for the overall, Elias Chain (5-2), and Miller (2-5) third with Green finishing up at fifth overall. Please go to www.mxsports.com for more
