erfect day for racing in Baja. It was a little cloudy in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon and a slight breeze all day. Thanks to

the great staff at Acosaq there was a killer 23-mile course laid out. The course started out in front of the police station, dropped into a big sand dune wash under the famous Highway 1, and continued through and around some silty farm fields and a narrow tunnel back under the 1 up through the hills towards the ocean and into the Baja 1000 and 500 Johnson Ranch area where there were a few fast hills, rain-rutted and whooped-out areas claiming a few vehicles. The final loop brought us back to town and had some tight corners and fast straightaways back through the sand wash, and finished back at the police station.

Alejandro Mendez was really fast, taking the overall. Rick Sanchez was right on his tail in his Class 8 Score truck. Greg Garber suffered a broken rear trailing arm giving the lead and win to Salmone Lopez in the 7 Open class. I raced in the 7s class starting out third off the line out of 5. I made it about a mile, and then some kind of electrical issue messed with the wire under the dash while the rest of the 7s and 5/1600 class passed me by. I got it fixed, caught back up, passed two trucks in my class, got a flat, and finished third behind Frank Felix. Taking the win was Oscar Licon who got second in the 2010 Baja 1000. Jesus Jimenez took the win in the 5/1600 class on a really tough course. Cardiff local and District 38 racer Daniel Flowers took the win and overall in the Moto Pro class. Carlos Sanchez got first in the Pro ATV class. No real injuries, it was a safe, fun race. Next race is Zarahembla Gran Prix 150 on the beach April 30 thru May 1 and after that the San Quintin Expoferia August 20-21. See you there! For more information please visit www.acosaqoffroad.com.
