launched an all-inclusive package for 2011. It’s available for seven or 14 nights and covers all meals, room service and soft drinks, but no alcohol. AMResorts opens its 23rd property,
Secrets Huatulco Resort and Spa in Mexico, in June. It will have 399 suites and an 18-hole championship golf course.
Tourism Talk
ELIZABETH FOX regional director, Jamaica Tourist Board UK and Northern Europe
“Jamaica was the birthplace of the all- inclusive concept and it has been going from strength to strength ever since. "The all-inclusive model offers such
great value to the holidaymaker and has been replicated all over the world. "The Jamaican resorts have all been
doing exceptionally well in early bookings this year. This is due to the fact that we have a variety of product to match all pockets, some great promotional offers in the marketplace and the allegiance of our travel agents, who recommend them based on a high standard of quality and value for money. "British holidaymakers have very high
expectations these days and are much more savvy customers, turning more and more to resorts that are able to offer that little bit more.”
UP CLOSE & PERSONAL BY JANE ARCHER
“The nice thing about staying at the upmarket Blue Waters in Antigua is that I was not asked to wear any identification to show that I was on the all-inclusive option, as was the case in a big resort hotel in the Dominican Republic. But then I didn’t need to; it’s a
small place and the staff soon get to know you. A favourite game was to go to the
bar and work through the cocktails. You can do that when all the drinks are paid for. A drawback at a small resort is the
lack of dining choice they have at the bigger properties. Water sports including sailing, kayaking and windsurfing were included – tuition was extra – but there was no kids’ club so parents need to decide: do they want an upmarket resort with nice beaches and personal service or do they want the kids to be entertained.”
