news to use CRUISING Fred. Olsen previews 2012

BY LAURA GELDER Early bookers can take advantage of

preferred itineraries and competitive prices in Fred. Olsen Cruises' 2012 Preview Brochure. Covering summer and autumn 2012 the

brochure was launched ahead of the main 2012/13 publication, which comes out in late May. The programme has stops in Canada,

West Africa, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and Baltic, Norway and the Fjords, the Canary Islands and Iberia and the UK and Ireland. There is also a selection of mini-cruises, lasting three or four nights. Cruises depart from six different

regional ports: Dover, Southampton, Portsmouth, Newcastle, Greenock (for Glasgow), and Rosyth (for Edinburgh). Balmoral’s popular 28-night Canada’s

Eastern Seaboard cruise returns, departing Southampton on September 5 and calling at Québec City, Montréal, Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island and an overnight stay in Saguenay, with an opportunity for whale watching. Prices start from £3,179pp, based on two adults sharing an inside twin-bedded cabin with all meals, entertainment onboard and port taxes.

Orion adds some spice to summer

Orion Expedition Cruises has an expedition to Indonesia’s Spice Islands this July, as well as an agent incentive on its Kimberley, Western Australia departures. Departing July 14, the 11-night trip

takes in the remote area of Wallacea between the two continents and stops at Maluku, Flores, Komodo, East and West Sumba, Savu and Rote before arriving back into Darwin in Australia Prices are from £4,785pp, which

includes all meals, entertainment and educational programmes, use of the ship’s sporting equipment and facilities, Zodiac excursions, port and handling charges, tender transfers and taxes. Agents who book a couple onto any

Orion cruise departing Kimberley until June 25 will receive £500 of high street vouchers of their choice (or £250 for a single person). The trip must be booked by April 30. www.orionexpeditions.com

Commissionable extras like Flagship Golf packages, charged at £375 per player, are also available. Lol Nichols, general sales manager for

Fred. Olsen said: “This preview offers agents a great opportunity to encourage early bookings, while prices are lower.

"Key selling points will be the

opportunity for agents' customers to secure their first choice of cruise and cabin – and if they upgrade to a suite they can benefit from the extras in our ‘Suite Dreams’ package.” www.fredolsencruises.com

FLO POWELL DIRECTOR I’m delighted that retail sales star Michelle Mone, one of the top three female entrepreneurs in the country and creator of designer lingerie brand Ultimo, will be speaking at this year’s ACE UK Cruise Convention. Delegates will be gathering in Southampton May 3-5 and Michelle will be addressing the Convention on May 4 onboard RCI's Independence of the Seas. With her entrepreneurial spirit

resulting in huge success in retail sales, Michelle will be an inspirational speaker for our agent members to learn from and take away the ideas and motivation to increase their cruise sales in an increasingly competitive and tough marketplace. In a very tough economy, Michelle has opened 23 outlets in the past 24 months. Although the sales environment

is fierce, more Brits are set to take a cruise holiday than ever before. The Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) reported in March that cruise passengers were up six per cent in 2010 compared to 2009. Cruising now accounts for 11.7% of the total overseas package holiday market and UK cruise departures increased 10% in 2010. The PSA forecast that the UK cruise market will reach 2 million by 2014. Detailed cruise statistics will be announced at the UK Cruise Convention as well as bespoke consumer buying trends researched by Mail Newspapers, which will be presented on ‘Columbus Day’ on May 3 by Head of Strategic Insight, Kate Scally onboard Fred. Olsen’s Balmoral. Cunard’s new Queen Elizabeth and the P&O Cruises’ Aurora will also be available to visit on May 5. Visit www.ukcruiseconvention. org and www.cruiseexperts.org.
