In the case of vertically hanging energy chains in handling crane applications, mast heights are getting higher, travels longer and speeds and accelerations are increasing too. In these situations it is possible for an energy chain supplying power and data, to swing out of its normal area of operation. If it then collides with a metal beam or a pallet, chain damage could occur. he new system is specifically designed for vertical energy chain applications with large heights in storage and retrieval units for high-bay warehouses, lifts and material handling equipment. Compact and easy to install (even for retro-fitting of existing systems) it allows safe energy and data supply in warehouses, deep-freeze stores, crane systems or power stations.


Up to 80 per cent less costs than for conventional guide troughs Normally a hanging energy chain is guided vertically in an encapsulated trough system or with similar enclosed solutions. With ‘Guidelok Slimline’ expensive and time-consuming trough systems can be avoided. This reduces


costs compared with troughs by up to 80%, says igus. Thanks to a clever device using plastic rockers – the energy chain is kept captive with ‘Guidelok SL’.


Plastic rockers grip the chain The chain travels freely and safely between small steel trough elements. These cost effective units are mounted every two meters and they are very easy to install. Two rockers, automatically pushed through by the radius in the trough elements, then grip the chain. The rockers – heart of the system – are the locking mechanism: when the chain travels in the radius through the trough segment, the rocker is activated and the chain gripped. This does not only provide operating safety; it also

reduces noise due to smooth chain motion. An additional benefit is that the energy chain is clearly easier to see and therefore monitor and maintain in service, because it is not in a continuous closed trough. Several manufacturers of storage and retrieval units for high-bay warehouses already use the new ‘Guidelok (SL)’ system with great success.
