Non-slip coating for industrial floors Metallisation has launched a new durable

non-slip coating. The 28E ARCTEC coat- ing is suitable for use on steel floors, decks and panels across diverse indus- tries, from train steps to oil platforms. Untreated, these steel surfaces can become very slippery, especially in wet conditions, and are prone to corrosion. To ensure safe walking and industrial oper- ating conditions, vital to personal safety and corporate productivity, 28E ARCTEC coating provides a durable non-slip anti - corrosion coating. Ideally, steel structures need a durable coating that protects against both slip and corrosion and which is what the new Metallisation 28E ARCTEC coating does.

Mask, spectacle safety combination

28E ARCTEC coating is a thermally sprayed coating that can be applied with a rough texture and has non-slip proper- ties, and is hard and resistant to wear. Metallisation T: 01384 252464 www.metallisation.com Enter 323

Safety specialist, uvex, has launched its superfit safety eyewear combined with its new Classic 2310 Cup version P3 and Classic 2210 Cup version P2 masks. Research shows that the main reason workers do not wear their safety spectacles or masks, a legal require- ment, is they are uncomfortable. Uvex’s masks and specs combination are designed to fit and be worn together. The design of the superfit spectacle makes for a dovetail fit between the spectacle and mask. The nose bridge fits perfectly inside the mask, but does not affect the sealing qualities.

The ergonomic design and shape of the mask and curvature of the lens ensure eye and face gaps are sealed so the wearer achieves a per- fect seal. The thinness of the superfit lens and reduced weight ensures there is no pressure and movement on the mask. uvex T: 01252 731200

Special knit glove with cut protection

Ansell Healthcare, the barrier protective solutions specialist, has launched the HyFlex 11-502, a glove intended for light assembly tasks. It is a silicone- free and knitted dipped light-weight glove with high levels of cut protection. This seamless, 15-gauge glove suits dry or slightly oily applications. The secret to the enhanced cut pro- tection lies in the knit: Nylon mixed with Dyneema fibrefor flexible cut resistance. The palm of the glove is dipped in foam nitrile for extra durabil- ity and grip. The glove is suitable for the automotive, metal fabrication, machinery and equipment, building and construction and maintenance industries. Silicone-free, the gloves are paint-job compatible. Their anti-static qualities make them suitable for specialised assembly jobs. Ansell Healthcare www.anselleurope.com Enter 328

performing and suitable in many environments. They are also com- fortable, with three sizes avail- able, so there’s a mask that fits for many workers.

As part of this exclusive offer, 3M will also provide customers with an added value service – 3M Service Life Software (SLS); the first program of its kind in the UK – that will allow them to identify when to change a 3M cartridge filter in a 3M reusable respirator. 3M T: 0870 8080060

The Health and Safety Executive has commenced on-site inspec- tions of hand-fed platen presses in the UK and so users of this high-risk machinery need to ensure their machines meet the required safety standards. Following extensive consulta- tion with industry, users and sup- pliers, HSE has published an information sheet to help users manage this process and is urging users of hand-fed platen (die cut- ting) machines in the UK to follow revised operating and safe- guarding guidance in order to reduce the risk of serious crush injuries and even death.

The information sheet, which is freely downloadable from HSE’s website is aimed at all employers, supervisors and man- agers who are responsible for the safe operation of hand-fed platen presses. It specifically addresses the risks associated with whole- body access between the platens

Workers stay safe while on the move

Mobexx has added a satellite commu- nications capability to its Mentor Ranger in-vehicle computer to improve lone worker safety. The device switch- es automatically between cellular and satellite networks depending on the available coverage. This Work-Alone solution for mobile engineers maximis- es connectivity with the office, provid- ing improved monitoring and commu- nication whenever they are operating in high risk situations or isolated sites. The new satellite interface allows the

of larger machines and use of the dwell mode. Tim Small, a specialist manu- facturing safety inspector at HSE, states: “Workers can and do climb between the platens. The risk is particularly high when the platen is being used in dwell [semi-auto- matic] mode.”

In November 2009 Pilz Automation Technology and SCA Display UK worked together to improve the safety of a hand-fed platen press at SCA’s Shenstone plant. The solution has been approved by the HSE. Pilz Automation Technology T: 01536 460766 www.pilz.co.uk

Work Alone system to operate in either cellular or satellite mode and compen- sates for cellular mobile phone blackspots on site or while travelling. The system uses the global Iridium satellite network that has 66 low-earth orbiting, cross-linked satellites. This provides a fully meshed network for comprehensive coverage, supported by in-orbit spares, which can be quickly repositioned and activated if needed. Companies use the Work-Alone sys- tem for live monitoring of mobile engi- neers and their vehicles on computer screen. This gives complete informa- tion for each vehicle, including its duty status and a countdown to the engi- neer’s next update (check-in). This frees them from constantly contacting engineers to find out if they are safe and how jobs are progressing. Mobexx T: 0845 259 1084 www.mobexx.co.uk Enter 326
