Casting Supplier: Sioux City Foundry Co., Sioux City, Iowa.


• The 1,037-lb. component provides a guide for the slide on structural tubing in a piece of equipment used to crush cars. The customer was losing a pric- ing war with a competitor and targeted the guide to cut costs.


• Converted from a nine-piece weldment, the cast part eliminated many of the fi nishing requirements of the original and is 600 lbs. lighter with no sacrifi ce in strength. The customer realized a $1,500 cost reduction.
