ITC Revokes Magnesium Antidumping Order on Russia
The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) announced
it has revoked the antidumping order on magnesium from Russia but continued the order on Chinese magnesium. ITC said in a press release it determined that revoking the
existing antidumping duty order on magnesium from Russia would not “be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time.” However, the commission found that revoking the Chinese order would be likely to lead to such injury. The action was conducted under the five-year sunset review
process required by the Uruguay Round Agreements Act. ITC Chairman Deanna Tanner Okun, Vice Chairman Irving Wil- liamson and Commissioners Daniel Pearson and Shara Aranoff voted in the affirmative with respect to China and in the negative with respect to Russia. Commissioner Charlotte Lane voted in the affirmative with respect to both countries. Commissioner Dean Pinkert did not participate in the reviews. The North American Die Casting Association (NADCA)
said in a press release the decision was “an important vic- tory” for the U.S. magnesium diecasting industry. “The harm to the diecasting industry will be lessened, but lack
of access to Chinese alloy magnesium will continue to hamper our ability to recover, since Russian magnesium producers prob- ably will not be selling significant quantities of alloy magnesium in the U.S.,” NADCA President Daniel Twarog said.
