SitexOrbis secures £3m NIHE contract renewal
One of the world’s largest providers of airline catering and provisioning services has recently installed a new access control system to control access to its sites and effectively manage its workforce. The Interflex access control and time and attendance system, from Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, is currently being used at its Heathrow, Stanstead, Luton and Newcastle facilities with a plan to roll out across all its operations at 16 airports in the UK.
Catering for access control
With on-going risks of terrorism and heightened airport security, this major Airline Service provider wanted an access control system which would improve site security and track staff and visitors on site. The system needed to be able to capture real-time employee data, by monitoring attendance, absence and time-keeping. At the same time, it needed to be flexible and adaptable, tailored for each different facility, but with the ability to generate a single ID card so staff could access multiple sites.
To solve this complex brief for 1,500 employees, biometric handreaders were installed at all locations linked to Interflex IF-6020 software. This offers real-time tracking and the generation of accurate roll-call and muster lists. Employee time and attendance is controlled using a biometric clocking-in system which provides a secure and accurate way of monitoring working hours, without the need for time cards or passwords and thereby guaranteeing 100% payroll accuracy.
The IF-6020 software feeds back activity and safety information from each site to the main server. Interflex card terminals have also been installed on internal doors throughout the head office and staff issued with photographic ID cards to control access to secure areas and monitor movements.

SitexOrbis has retained a £3 million contract to secure empty properties for the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, the Province’s largest landlord. The four year contract joins eight others won in the public sector this year worth up to an additional £1 million for the property and people protection specialist.
New business signed includes out-of-hours call handling for Cheltenham Borough Council, Accent Housing and Solihull Community Housing Trust. In addition, Ty Bron Afon housing association in Wales awarded a new contract for cleaning and clearing and Dublin City Council awarded a contract for removals and storage.
Public sector clients renewing empty property security contracts include River Clyde Homes, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council and Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council. The last two contracts were procured through LHC framework agreement, V5. LHC awarded the company a 99.9% Value for Money rating last year.

Security Solutions develops new style road blocker
Responding to market demands, perimeter access specialist, Security Solutions, has developed a cost effective crash rated road-blocker which meets BSI PAS 68:2010, (impact test specification for vehicle security barriers).
As many modern traffic-flows on high security sites are designed to limit vehicle speeds, Security Solutions realised that there was a demand for a road blocker to be crash tested to just 30mph. “Many customers are paying a premium for a product which is over engineered for their requirements,” explained Brian Wilkinson, technical manager. “Much has been done to slow traffic in high security settings with road- layouts, but we felt the road blockers on the market hadn’t moved with the times.” Security Solutions’ cheese wedge shaped road blocker is sunk into the roadway as one complete unit, for ease of installation and acts as an aggressive visual deterrent. It is made of a galvanised steel box construction and two hydraulic rams. It is bedded into a pit with integral sub pumps for drainage.
