Freshman Ken Kirshner rounds out the infield, and his excellent defense will provide welcome depth at first base.

Outfield Sophomore Mike Fish emerged as one of the top rookies in the league last season and he returns to man centerfield. Fish is a five-tool player whose name will be consistently etched into the top of the Saints’ lineup.

“Mike had a great freshman season and is a big part of our future,” Rossi said. “It is critical for us to be strong up the middle and Mike solidifies us in that area.”

The other two outfield spots are up for grabs with senior Kyle Hudson, junior Teddy Trymbiski, and freshmen Greg Wilson, Tyler Bell and John Rooney all in the mix for playing time.

Hudson and Trymbiski both have good speed and the three freshmen have high ceilings.

Catchers The Saints are very strong behind the dish, with two solid sophomore backstops battling for time. Larry Balkwill has all the raw tools and has worked hard in the off-season, while Kyle Baldani has transi- tioned from a utility role as a rookie to primarily catching duties this year.

Junior William Cardona is an experienced returnee who will add depth to both middle infield positions, primarily playing second base this season.

Rossi has identified sophomore transfer Adam Guinn as the player most likely to emerge with the starting gig at the hot corner. Guinn is an offensive-minded infielder who makes the plays in the field as well. Citro could also see some action at third base along with sopho- more Mike Allen who started 30 games and batted .272 as a rookie last year.

Both are more than capable of handling Siena’s diverse pitching staff and developing into consistent contributors at the plate. Rooney could also see some spot time with the mask.

Pitchers Siena’s pitching staffmademeteoric improvement last season and the majority of the key pieces return this year.
