DELOITTE BETS ON RETAIL TABLETS
Management consultancy, Deloitte has predicted retail and manufacturing industries will test tablet PC use for their employees during the coming year. It forecast that businesses will purchase more than a quarter of all tablet computers
in 2011, driven in part by the consumerisation of corporate technology as mobile PC alternatives. Jolyon Barker, global lead for Deloitte’s Technology, Media and Telecommunications
Industry, commented: “We predict companies in the retail, healthcare and manufacturing sectors will buy more than 10 million tablets for their staff to take advantage of the ease of use and longer battery life of these devices.” It said large software vendors are combining with desktop virtualisation providers to create secure enterprise-grade applications that can be rapidly deployed into businesses’ IT environments. But it warned the devices may not be particularly robust and price could also be an issue, where the cost of developing bespoke applications and securing the devices could also be a hurdle.
to ensure that the right employees, with the right skills, are scheduled at the right time to meet customer demand.
“Our ability to implement global time and attendance in just 15 weeks is truly a testament to the fl exibility and extendibility
of the Workbrain application,” said Stacey Shulman, American Apparel technology vice president. “Infor Workbrain’s mathematical – rather than heuristic – approach to solving our scheduling challenges was a key factor in our decision to move forward.”
