The Palestinian National Authority is to diversify its tourism offering away from religion and will promote its rural tourism product this year. An advertising campaign last year plus a fam trip for 12 tour operators in the spring aimed to showcase Palestine as a destination in its own right rather than merely an add-on to Israel. The authority will also highlight its Jericho 10,000 project, a three-year development plan based around the 10,000th anniversary of the city of Jericho, which was celebrated on 10/10/2010. The scheme will highlight Jericho as a gateway to Palestine and edge its tourism product away from the traditional pilgrimage tours to experiential tourism and cultural and heritage tourism.
