n the old days, Chinese women always wore jade to indicate their status as ladies, i.e. as coming from noble family backgrounds. Even the ordinary folk - those belonging to trading or commercial families, who had the wealth but not the status of nobility - would celebrate the weddings of their daughters (and sons) by presenting the bride with a piece of jade to indicate their marital status. Men wore jade to signify their rank and importance in the civil and
