1. Leslie Van deWalle, director, DCC


DCC has appointed Leslie Van de Walle to its board as a non- executive director. Van de Walle is a former chief execu- tive officer of Rexamand previ- ously held a number of senior executive roles in Royal Dutch Shell, including executive vice- president of retail for oil prod- ucts and head of oil products, Shell Europe. He has also held a number of senior manage- ment positions with Cadbury Schweppes and United Biscuits. Van de Walle is a non-executive director of Aviva and SIG.

2. Peter Sandys, chairman, IVCA


Peter Sandys, managing part- ner and co-founder of Seroba Kernel Life Sciences, has been elected chairman of the Irish Venture Capital Association (IVCA). He succeeds John Tracey, CEO of TVC Holdings. Sandys is currently on the board of AGI Therapeutics and several international invest- ment funds. He has held many directorships in the fund man- agement, technology and financial services industries. He was previously managing


Sarah McDonough has been appointed to the role of coun- try manager for the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) Ireland. She will now spear- head WXN’s new schedule of programme development. She will also assist WXN in Ireland with its growth and business development plans while man- aging relations with the net- work’s corporate sponsors. McDonough is the owner and managing director of blossom, a marketing consultancy spe- cialising in brand and market- ing programme management. Prior to blossom, she spent over six years with O2 as brand communications manager and, more recently, as head of insight. She holds a first-class honours MBA, an advanced management diploma and a BComm international degree from University College Dublin (UCD).


4. Ray Nolan, chairman, Skyscanner.net


Ray Nolan has been appointed chairman of flights compari- son website Skyscanner.net. Founder of Web Reservations International, the parent com- pany of the Hostelworld.com accommodation booking site among others, Nolan last year led the organisation through a US$340msale.


5. Noel Curran, director-general, RTÉ


Former managing director of RTÉ Television, Noel Curran, has been named as the next director-general of RTÉ. He began working in the print media as a business journalist after completing a BA in com- munications at Dublin City University. He was deputy edi- tor with Business & Finance before joining RTÉ in 1992. He worked as a reporter, producer and editor in RTÉ Television. He was executive producer of the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin in 1997 and served two terms as editor of current affairs in the news division, where he established the Prime Time Investigates pro- gramme strand. He joined RTÉ’s executive as managing director of television in 2003, and was the longest-serving head of that division by March 2010 when he left RTÉ to pur- sue a consultancy and other private business interests. He has previously been a company director in the independent production sector in Ireland. Curran will take over the posi- tion from outgoing director- general Cathal Goan in February 2011.


6. Michael Kennedy, managing director, Mercury Holdings


Mercury Holdings has appointed Michael Kennedy as managing director of the building and engi- neering services group. He suc- ceeds Joe Morgan, who is retir- ing from the company but will continue to be a member of the board as a non-executive direc- tor. Kennedy joined Mercury in 1992 and was responsible for developing the mechanical divi- sion into its leading position in the Irish market. He became a director of Mercury Engineering in 2005 andwas appointed group chief operating officer to the main board in 2007.


7. John Hennessy, chairman, LM Ericsson


Following his retirement as managing director of LM Ericsson on 30 November 2010, John Hennessy will take up the role of chairman of LM Ericsson Holdings and become a director on the board of LM Ericsson. Hennessy was appointed man- aging director of LMEricsson in 2003, and has had a successful 37-year career within Ericsson. His extra responsibilities will entail taking an advisory role within Ericsson Region Western
