As governments look to recoup lost revenues, the world is in themidst of considerable tax regime change, according to KPMG’s 2010 Global Corporation and Indirect Tax Survey. Ireland’s corporation tax at 12.5pc is amongst the lowest in Europe, where the average corpora- tion tax rate now stands at 21.5pc compared with a global average of 25pc. Indirect taxes are on the rise with a global average of 15.6pc this year, compared with 15.4pc in 2009 and a rate of 21.5pc in Ireland. “Our survey shows the extent to which corporation

tax varies worldwide and the extent to which many countries have used corporation tax policy as a key eco- nomic development strategy,” says ShaunMurphy,Head of tax at KPMG in Ireland. “Ireland operates in a hugely competitive environment
